Rimapere Sauvignon Blanc is a single vineyard Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc made by Baron Benjamin de Rothschild. 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Intense aromas of lime, nettle and jasmine. Beautifully integrated and delicate on the palate with a rich core of fruit, fresh acidity and a long dry finish. balanced structure with a delicate finish.

Edmond de Rothschild Heritage (EdRH) is the group name for Baron Benjamin de Rothschild’s wine-making projects around the world. This is the third branch of the illustrious Rothschild wine-making family alongside Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) and Baron Philippe de Rothschild (Mouton Rothschild). The company owns properties in Bordeaux (Château Clarke, Château Malmaison, Château des Laurets), Bodegas Flechas de los Andes and joint venture in Rioja and Fredericksburg (South Africa) with Macán Bodegas Benjamin de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia and Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons respectively.

The Rimapere project began as a a quest by Benjamin de Rothschild’s desire to create a world class Sauvignon Blanc. In 2012, vineyards in the heart of Marlborough were acquired in a joint venture between Baron Benjamin de Rothschild and Terry Peabody, the owner of Craggy Range wines. The Rimapere vineyard in New Zealand was chosen for its exceptional terroir and climate. The Rimapere Sauvignon Blanc vineyard consists of some 24 hectares of vines (20 hectares Sauvignon Blanc, 4 hectares of Pinot Noir) located at very highly regarded sites on the Rapaura Road in the heart of the Marlborough wine-growing region. The village of Rapaura is located to the northwest of Blenheim with the Wairau River flowing past it to the north.

The Rimapere vineyard was planted in the early part of the 21st century and the soils are predominantly Omaka stony silt loam soils. The warm climate and stony soils help to produce citrus-y lemon and grapefruit character and crisp acidity and mineral characters. The Sauvignon Blanc vines have an average age of 15 years old and are harvested by both manual and mechanical means. The grapes undergo some skin contact, pneumatic pressing and settling followed by fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks for 2 weeks at 15 C. The wine is rested for 5 months in stainless steel prior to bottling and release.

Rimapere is the Maori word for “five arrows” which is the Rothschild family emblem and represented the five, entrepreneurial brothers who were the sons of Mayer Amschel Rothschild
