Singleton Whisky
The Singleton represents the best of traditional whisky, steadfast in its commitment to creating complex yet perfectly balanced single malt scotch whiskies that are as enjoyable as they are distinctive.
Each bottle of Singleton is made to be ‘Unapologetically Enjoyed’, inviting connoisseurs, enthusiasts, and novices alike to indulge in its light and delicate taste, which can only be described as uniquely Scottish.
History and origin
It all began with three distilleries: Glen Ord, Dufftown and Glendullan, founded with the goal of creating exceptionally balanced single malts that are easy to drink while still being deliciously enjoyable.
In 2006, the distilleries’ owner, Diageo, launched The Singleton brand, with the three individual single malts each given their own separate market.
2015 would see Diageo place The Singleton at the core of its single malt portfolio, releasing all three versions globally.
Where is Singleton Whisky from?
The Singleton hails from three distilleries in three distinct regions of Scotland.
Dufftown is located in the heart of the Speyside region. In its distillation, Dufftown extensively used the area’s pure, soft spring water. Even today, this water continues to be a vital ingredient in the distillery’s whisky-making process.
Glendullan was constructed on the banks of the River Dullen in 1897, nestled amongst the picturesque Convall Hills. The distillery’s onion-shaped stills are responsible for producing The Singleton’s signature green apple profile.
Glen Ord, one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries, was established on the Black Isle in the Scottish Highlands. Its motto, “Luceo non uro” (I shine not burn), highlights The Singleton’s dedication to slow batched distillation.
Why is it called Singleton Whisky?
The ‘Singleton’ name came from an early 20th-century expression used to describe a whisky that a vendor had only a single cask of i.e. a singleton is a one-off.
What kind of whisky is the Singleton?
The Singleton is a single-malt scotch whisky from a single Scottish distillery. It is made using only malted barley, water, and yeast. It is then aged in an oak cask no bigger than 700 litres for at least three years.
What is different about Singleton Whisky?
The Singleton is focused on taste, not complexity. Its makers use slow batch distillation to ensure that the drink is perfected long before it begins the ageing process.
The whisky itself is divided into two parts; one part is aged in American oak bourbon barrels, imparting sweetness and a rich nuttiness, while the other part is aged in fruity European sherry casks.
Once the two whiskies have properly aged, they are blended to create a smooth and fruity scotch with distinct tones of green apple.

- Duck liver: The silky texture of duck liver enriches the layers of whisky.
- Roasted almonds: The savoury nuttiness of the almonds helps bring out the nutty undertones of Singelton 12.
- Dark chocolate: The rich, chocolaty flavour of Singleton 18 brings out the bitter cocoa taste of the dark chocolate.
- Figs: Honey-drizzled figs match well with the Singleton 12’s fruity and sweet notes.
- Char siu: The burnt aroma and oily palate of char siu pair well with the tannins of Singleton 15.
- Sichuan cuisine: The vanilla-like taste of Singletone 15 resonates with the spicy aroma of Sichuan cuisine and helps tone down the spiciness.
- Warm layered desserts: The sweetness of Singleton 12 pairs well with chocolatey desserts like black forest cake and chocolate brownies.
