Founded by Claude Moet in 1743, the Epernay wine trader began shipping his wine from Champagne (the region in France) to Paris. The winery’s clientele included many nobles and aristocrats as the reign of King Louis XV coincided with the increased interest and demand for sparkling wine. In 1840, following the introduction of the concept of vintage champagne saw Moet marketing its first Moet & Chandon vintage 1842.
