Description

BERTON VINEYARD Reserve Shiraz

BERTON VINEYARD Reserve Shiraz, a warm, dry and low yielding vintage in the Barossa. Predominantly from two blocks harvested late February and early March, the Reserve Shiraz was fermented in separate parcels in sweeping arm fermenters for up to 8 days at 25 to 28 degrees. The wine was then pressed and left in stainless steel for malolactic fermentation then racked into barrel for 13 months maturation in new and used French and American oak. The best barrels were then blended and filtered for bottling.

Dark red in colour with vibrant purple hues. The aromas are powerful and complex, with a wealth of fruit. The cooler ripening period allowed development of the more subtle white pepper and spice characters, which shine through the deep fruits of black cherries and blackberry. The palate is rich and harmonious and displays plum and cherry with toasty oak and velvety chocolate with silky tannins that lead to a long and persistent finish. The Berton Vineyard Reserve range brings together wines from regions that due to their distinct climate and soil have excelled at producing particular varieties. Predominantly made from the Barossa Valley this vintage, resulting in a rich, textured and drinkable Shiraz.

The Winery is located in the New South Wales regional township of Yenda which has a population of around 1,600 people and is 580km south west of Sydney and 500km North West of Melbourne. The Winery site itself was established in 1945 and it has close ties with the development of the Riverina as a major Australian viticultural area. The winery has the capacity to crush and bottle approximately 20,000 tonnes annually and has a storage capacity of 14 million litres. From humble beginnings in 2005 Berton Vineyards has grown into one of the 20 largest Wineries in Australia (Wine Industry Directory, 2020). Both our winery and our wines have also received strong reviews and accolades both domestically and internationally. We have achieved our success through maintaining personal relationships with our customers, this in turn has created our success in both our global and domestic markets. Since acquiring the site in 2005 we have been constantly updating and improving our facility. Recent improvements include the addition of a new tank farm and warehouse.
