Deep-intensity ruby in color, this wine has a nose of black plum, red cherry and some smokiness as well as clove-and-vanilla baking spice.
On the palate the dry, medium-bodied merlot is smooth and plush in texture with medium acidity and medium tannin.

CHATEAU STE. MICHELLE Canoe Ridge Estate Merlot. The Merlot Canoe Ridge Estate Vineyard, which has 10% of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, is a fruit-forward, plump, earthy, medium-bodied red that gives up notions of black cherries, spice, earth and hints of truffle. It saw 16 months in 54% new French and American oak and should drink nicely for 3-4 years. – Robert Parker
