    Tasting Notes:
Château Trotanoy has been a part of négociant JP Moueix since 1953, alongside Pétrus.  Château Trotanoy is a Bordeaux wine estate in the Pomerol appellation, regarded as one of the great wines of the right bank. The Merlot-dominant wine is known for its decadent, rich style, and its prices are among the highest in Bordeaux.
    • Colour: Deep purple
    • Nose: Super nose of dried blueberry, black plum, walnut, myrrh and sandalwood. Lavender, violet, and chocolate.
    • Palate: Ripe with wood now, but fresh. It’s full-bodied with firm, ultra fine tannins. Lots of dark spice is interlaced with the ripe fruit, giving this complex, perfumed character.
    • Finish: Muscular, long and seamless with incredible depth and concentration. Reminds me of the great 2009, but this is better with more structure.

    Description

    Chateau Trotanoy 2018

Chateau Trotanoy 2018 , archaically Trop Ennuie, is a Bordeaux wine from the appellation Pomerol. The winery is located on the Right Bank of the Bordeaux wine region, in the commune of Pomerol in the department Gironde. As all wine produced in this appellation, Château Trotanoy is unclassified, but the estate is estimated among the great growths of the region. A second wine of Château Trotanoy, L’Esperance de Trotanoy, which made its debut with the 2009 vintage. 500 cases of L’Esperance de Trotanoy were produced. L’Esperance de Trotanoy is not made in every vintage.

Chateau Trotanoy 2009 is a leading Pomerol estate that has been owned by Jean-Pierre Mouiex since 1953. Trotanoy’s 8 hectares of vineyards are located on a high plateau about one kilometre west of Château Pétrus between the village church and the village of Catusseau. Purchased by Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1953, Château Trotanoy has been considered one of the premier crus of Pomerol since the end of the eighteenth century. The soil of Château Trotanoy is a very dense mixture of clay and gravel which tends to solidify as it dries out after rain to an almost concrete-like hardness, hence the name “Trotanoy,” or, in other words, “too wearisome” to cultivate.

The Trotanoy vineyard slopes gently to the west. The soil at the highest point of exposure contains a good proportion of gravel, becoming progressively more dominated by clay as the elevation declines. Under this clay is a subsoil of red gravel and an impermeable layer of hard, iron-rich soil known as “crasse de fer.” This fascinating soil diversity brings power, depth and complexity to the wine. Trotanoy is vinified in small concrete vats, while aging takes place in oak barrels.

Trotanoy is a naturally profound, complex, richly-concentrated wine with outstanding aging potential. The wine possesses a deep color and a dense, powerful nose, repeated on the palate with the addition of creamy, dark chocolate notes, and a singular concentration of flavor owed to its very old vines.
