Masseto takes its name from the hard, blue clay blocks that form on the surface of the vineyard, the so-called ‘massi’. For this wine, 2018 was a pivotal year because the long-awaited Masseto cantina was completed just in time to give that year’s harvest the home it deserved: a space that has an architectural identity all its own.
2016 was such a perfect vintage that it represented one of the high points of this wine’s 30-year history. Masseto 2016 is gifted with a concentration and precision that cannot pass unobserved. This was a textbook harvest for Masseto, with a typically Tuscan coastal climate that was dry and sunny, with just the right amount of rain to ensure the grapes ripened perfectly.
