In the glass, the wine presents with a deep red colour that is particularly intense, and after twirling the glass, the tears descend so slowly they appear not to want to detach from the glass. The bouquet is intense and complex, as in all great vintages, and the first hints of dark, ripe fruit – cherries, blackberries, blueberries, plums and fresh dates – mingles with subtle notes of cocoa, roasted notes, Mediterranean herbs and an ethereal and balsamic finish. In the mouth it is so enveloping that it almost seems like juice. This wine develops horizontally, with a rich structure and soft and silky tannins. The sip is fruity, enveloping,
tasty, almost voluptuous, and vibrant – the freshness is very clear and it has a very long finish. Once tasted, this wine is almost impossible to forget; it is a true icon and everything that a pure Merlot should be.

MASSETO 2016 is one of the most celebrated wines in the world. Coveted by international collectors and fine wine connoisseurs across the globe, Masseto constantly receives the highest accolades from the most prestigious wine critics in the world, and is a fixture in the international fine wine trade indices.

Masseto takes its name from the hard, blue clay blocks that form on the surface of the vineyard, the so-called ‘massi’. For this wine, 2018 was a pivotal year because the long-awaited Masseto cantina was completed just in time to give that year’s harvest the home it deserved: a space that has an architectural identity all its own.

2016 was such a perfect vintage that it represented one of the high points of this wine’s 30-year history. Masseto 2016 is gifted with a concentration and precision that cannot pass unobserved. This was a textbook harvest for Masseto, with a typically Tuscan coastal climate that was dry and sunny, with just the right amount of rain to ensure the grapes ripened perfectly.
