Matusalem Insólito — “Rosé” Aged Rum with Tempranillo Wine-Cask Elegance
Matusalem Insólito (Spanish for “unusual”) is a pioneering rosé-hued aged rum from the Dominican Republic, inspired by the refined charm of Provence rosé wines—but built on Matusalem’s signature rum depth.
Created under Master Blender Cynthia Vargas, it starts with selected aged rums that are charcoal filtered, then matured for an extra 3 years in a solera of ex-Tempranillo (Rioja) wine barrels, before being “married” with a core of Matusalem Gran Reserva 15 to achieve its distinctive style and colour.
Why customers love it
- A true conversation piece: Provence-pink rum with wine-cask sophistication
- A unique flavour bridge: vanilla-buttery richness + berry fruit + gentle wine tannin structure
- Often released as a limited edition (commonly cited as 8,000 bottles)
How to enjoy
- Neat: best to appreciate the rosé-like fruit, buttery notes, and wine-tannin finesse
- On the rocks: softens sweetness and highlights the toasted bread/berry finish
- Premium cocktail twist: use where you’d normally reach for a smooth aged rum—but want extra fruit and structure (e.g., a Rosé Rum Old Fashioned riff)
