Purple Angel represents the best selection of hand-picked Carmenère grapes from Montes’ two estates, Apalta and Marchigue. The Apalta Estate’s sunny vineyards give elegance to the wine while the Marchigue’s coastal cool weather produces yield that provides strength, concentration and a deep, intense carmine colour to the mix. This mixture is blended with a little bit of Petit Verdot to add structure, colour and cellaring potential. The result is a fantastic wine that blends both elegance and power.
Tasting Notes
The Purple Angel showcases the spicy touches typical of Carmenère red wine. The fragrance is elegant with notes of ripe red and black fruits, including plums, blueberries and blackberries, over a background of sweetness. Being aged in French oak barrels for 18 months adds dark chocolate, coffee and cigar box aromas on top of these fruity scents.
The palate is full-bodied yet silky, featuring plenty of ripe, gentle and soft tannins. The same fruit and dairy notes from the aroma reappear on the mouthfeel, including dulce de leche, developing into a very long and big-bodied finish.
To enhance your drinking pleasure, decant the wine for at least an hour, allowing its deeper flavours to open up.
