Rooster Rojo Mezcal
Rooster Rojo Mezcal is an artisanal Mezcal Joven made from 100% Espadín agave grown for 7 years in Oaxaca, Mexico, then tahona-crushed and double-distilled for a balanced profile that’s smooth, rich, fruity, and gently smoky. It’s crafted in partnership with Lopes Sosa Palenque in San Juan del Río, Oaxaca, and each bottle is signed by Maestro Mezcalero Rodolfo Lopez Juan.
Why it stands out
- 43% ABV for proper mezcal structure and cocktail lift
- Traditional production: underground ovens, tahona, open-vat fermentation, copper pot stills (sealed with local clay)
- Signature dark clay-style bottle to protect the liquid from sunlight (and tied to local tradition)
- Award recognition: received a Masters Award at The Spirits Business’ Tequila & Mezcal Masters
What does “Joven” mean?
Joven typically means unaged (or minimally rested), keeping mezcal’s agave brightness while still showcasing smoke, earth, and spice.
How to Drink
- Neat, room temperature (the brand’s recommended “perfect serve” style)
- Mezcal Paloma (grapefruit + mezcal = easy win)
- Smoky Bloody Mary twist (mezcal adds savoury depth)
