Bordeaux, perhaps the most celebrated and well-known wine region in the world, is the land of the great Châteaux, which, in general, live up to their reputation for producing very elegant, long-lived and full-bodied wines. Located in the southwest of France, close to the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, the region has the most extensive Denomination of Origin area in the world. The grape varieties grown in Bordeaux are mainly the red varieties Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon and, in the spectrum of white grapes, the most common are Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle. Characteristics of wines made with this grape: This wine is made from the traditional white Bordeaux blend. In this cut, the Sémillon gives the wine body, structure and unctuousness, and the Sauvignon Blanc, gives the wine lightness, richness of aromas and accentuated acidity. This way, the grapes complement each other, and make the wine complex, rich and balanced. Sweet wines with Botrytis are very elegant and can be served with blue cheeses and dried fruits. Naturally, they also go very well with desserts, such as the German apple strudel, or the emblematic French tarte tatin. But, without a doubt, the most sophisticated pairing is with foie gras. Unsurpassed!
