The Yamazaki Distillery is located in Shimamoto, Osaka, in Japan. Owned by Suntory, it was opened in 1923 and was the country’s first commercial whisky distillery. There are three primary variants of this best Japanese whisky. The Yamazaki 12 year old whisky is one of them. The other two are the Yamazaki 18 year old and Yamazaki 25 year old.
Suntory is one of the oldest whisky companies in Japan. Started in 1899 by Torii Shinjiro, it is now Japan’s largest and most recognizable producer of quality whisky. In 1984, the Yamazaki 12 year old single malt was introduced to the market. It was the very first single malt whisky to be seriously marketed in Japan.

On the nose, fruity notes of peach, pineapple, grapefruit, clove and candied orange with a hint of vanilla waft through the whisky glass. There is also a hint of Mizunara or Japanese oak, of which the whisky has sat in for 12 years.
The taste is deep and multi-layered. Coconut, cranberry and butter tastes are prominent on the palate.
It’s finish is rather long with sweet ginger and cinnamon notes added to it.
