ANGHELI Donnafugata.The Sicilian red wine Angheli is a classy wine of the Donnafugata cellar. It is produced with the Merlot and Sicilian Cabernet Sauvignon vines which have the IGP certification which identify the Protected Typical Geographical area of cultivation. The Red Angheli reminds to an historical tradition curiosity of the agrarian West Sicily. It is the symbol of the manhood and the elegance, the dames and knights and the war and love. It represents the Angelica of the Orlando Furioso who run away on a horse as showed in the label.
Characteristics of the Angheli IGP wine
The red wine Angheli of the Donnafugata cellar is elegant, medium structured with a velvety tannin and a pleasant freshness. It characterized by a wide bouquet with balsamic fragrances, violet and sweet tobacco aromas. It is produced with blended vines of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The proof reaches the 13 degrees. It is used the counter cultivation method and the cordon spur pruning. The cultivation ground is mostly clay and relatively loose. The Merlot is picked in the last decade of August whereas the Cabernet Sauvignon is in the second decade of September. This permits the vines to achieve the right state of maturation. The grapes are put in steel tanks with the maceration on the peels for about 12 days at 28°C. The malolactic fermentation takes place naturally without any additional yeast and at this point the wine is put in second generation French oak barrels for about one year. Finally there is a bottle refinement for about 24 months.
