    TASTING NOTES:.

With less of a focus on Islay, there is less peatiness than hitherto, with the smoky flavours being balanced with increased fruitiness and elegance.

    • Aroma: Freshly cut oak and caramel. Hint of something medicinal at the back, but with heavy brown sugar notes swamping it. Hints of nail varnish touches and polished oak.
    • Palate: Milk chocolate, ginger, lots of woody spice, brown sugar, sour apple hints, golden syrup behind.
    • Finish: Soft, elegantly spicy, nutmeg, pepper and a gentle lingering smokiness.

    BLACK BOTTLE Blended Whisky

BLACK BOTTLE Blended Whisky . A bottle of the 2013 relaunched Black Bottle. Owners Burn Stewart have decided to return the brand to its original 1879 roots, including the black glass that gave the blend its name. A unique blend of the finest Islay, Highland and Speyside malts, blended with exceptional grain whiskies returning in a distinctive full, rich and slightly smoky Scotch with a warm, long finish.

Black Bottle has had an unusual journey to reach the back bars of the world’s finest cocktail establishments, but it’s a journey that has been defined by character, determination and a sizeable measure of unconventionality. It began in 1879. Three Graham brothers – Charles, David and Gordon – left the rural village of Torphins, for the booming port of Aberdeenshire in the north east of Scotland, with a plan to make their fortune. They quickly made a name for themselves as tea blenders, but soon turned their attention to a very different drink – whisky.

Drawing on his remarkable tea-blending talents, Gordon Graham selected the finest malt and grain whiskies from the Aberdeenshire area and blended them together to create a whisky of exceptional character. It was a blend unlike any other – distinctively rich and slightly smoky. It was originally intended for family and friends, but soon became famous in and around the area.

The blend was originally known as Gordon Graham’s Special Liqueur Whisky, and was sold in pottery bottles and five gallon jars. With many shops selling whisky, the brothers decided to look for a unique bottle, which would set their whisky apart from the many other blends on the market. They settled upon a striking black glass bottle, which they thought would perfectly suit the unusual character of their whisky, and reflect the brave and uncompromising nature of the founders. And so Black Bottle Whisky as we know it was born.
