    GLENALLACHIE 12 Year Old SPANISH VIRGIN OAK

    GLENALLACHIE 12 Year Old SPANISH VIRGIN OAK. For The GlenAllachie Virgin Oak Series, they have first matured our whisky in American Oak (Quercus Alba) Ex-Bourbon Barrels. To add a delicate and distinctive twist, the whisky then undergoes additional maturation for approximately 18 months in specially selected Virgin Oak Casks. The subtle flavour differences in this series are led by a variety of influences: the Oak species, the local terroir and the period of natural air drying, along with the toasting, charring and coopering of the casks. Each of these reacts uniquely with the GlenAllachie spirit, adding superb texture, depth and variety.

    This rich bronze malt obtains its silky tannins, sweet spice and fruit notes from hogsheads made of French Oak (Quercus Robur) sourced from the Haute-Garonne region close to the Pyrenees. The fine-grained, consistent wood is air dried for 15 months before hosting the GlenAllachie spirit. The result is a delectable, subtle and earthy Single Malt.

    One of the trio of expressions in the collection to be finished in different types of cask, the Glenallachie 11 Year Old Moscatel Wood Finish was matured in American white oak barrels before spending the remaining months of its life in casks that previously held moscatel wine.

    The Glenallachie Distillery is a malt whisky distillery on Speyside at Aberlour founded in 1967, which sits at the foot of Ben Rinnes. Previously, the distillery mainly produced whisky for blends however has since been relaunched as a distillery known for its fruity, single malt expressions. In July 2017, it was announced that Chivas Brothers agreed to sell GlenAllachie to former BenRiach MD Billy Walker, Trisha Savage and ex-Inver House Distillers MD Graham Stevenson, who came together to form The GlenAllachie Distillers Company. It is now one of Scotland’s few independently owned and managed distilleries.

    The GlenAllachie distillery was built in 1967 by Mackinlay McPherson. It was bought and mothballed by Invergordon Distillers in 1985. They sold it to Campbell Distillers in 1989, who restarted the distillery. In 2017, the distillery was sold to Billy Walker, Graham Stevenson and Trisha Savage, who came together as The GlenAllachie Distillers Company Limited, along with two blended Scotch whisky brands – White Heather and MacNair’s.
