GLENDRONACH 18 Year Old
The GlenDronach 18 years old named after the renowned founder of the distillery, James Allardice. This exceptional sherried single malt is non chill filtered and of natural colour. Matured in the finest Spanish Oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 46%, this sublime richly sherried malt is truly unforgettable.
STANDING THE TEST OF TIME
In fact, The GlenDronach Distillery has been creating the finest richly sherried single malts for nearly 200 years.
1826, the exuberant and extroverted James Allardice founded the distillery and produced his ‘Guid GlenDronach’ single malt. However, the distillery has thrived under the stewardship of far-sighted investors. The investors are like Walter Scott in 1847 and Captain Charles Grant in 1920. In more recent times, GlenDronach was bought in 1960 by William Teacher & Sons. Originally, all of the workers at GlenDronach lived on site. To this day many of the old houses still remain. The most famous of them all is Glen House was built in 1771. Apparently she is quite partial to the odd tipple now and then.
1968
GlenDronach released as a single malt brand for the first time. Furthermore, the brand’s reputation grew from strength to strength. In 2008, nothing less than a complete renaissance began. The BenRiach Distillery Company became GlenDronach’s proud new owner. While time can never stand still. GlenDronach will ensure that the distinctive practices that have always defined the distillery will live on. The most influential of these, its return to independent ownership.
GlenDronach, the sleeping giant, has awoken and is once again an independent distillery.
Independent ownership gives us the freedom to rekindle the reputation of GlenDronach. As the distiller of richly sherried single malt whiskies of inimitable and individual character. It’s a reputation that has travelled worldwide. The team at GlenDronach have set out on a journey to bring GlenDronach back to life. In April 2009, GlenDronach relauched the Core Range. Since then, we have developed our portfolio with some interesting wood finishes, excellent single cask bottlings and fantastic additions to the core range.
A UNIQUE HERITAGE AND TRADITIONAL PAST
As was the case in 1826, The GlenDronach Distillery patiently matures its single malt whisky in superior quality sherry casks. Our distilling methods may be old-fashioned. However, we prefer to look on them as handcrafted techniques created through nearly 200 years of tradition. From the germination of the barley to the flow of the purest middle cuts of distilled spirit, every step in the GlenDronach journey is taken with meticulous care and immaculate timing.
Moreover, our malt mill, glistening copper mash tun and traditional wooden washbacks form part of a vigorous but carefully attended process. Our elegant copper pot stills distil and re-distil the richest spirit which is then filled into the finest casks and left patiently maturing in our warehouses. Nearly 70% of the flavour in whisky is derived from the cask it has been matured in. Wood’s important, which is why we adopt a ‘no compromise’ approach when choosing our world renowned sherry casks to enrich our whisky. Over the years of extended maturation, these carefully seasoned casks help create the unique richly sherried style that GlenDronach is famous for.
