Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: Preserved light fruits, pleasant sweet citrus note, fresh but clear sherry notes, Green apple, pear, slightly honey-like sweetness, fruit sorbet, light grain note in the background, a little dry, woody vanilla, perhaps a little milk chocolate.
  • Taste: Fresh sweet fruits, full fruit basket, a little honey sweetness, very subtle and pleasantly spicy, fresh citrus notes. Again after a while, sweet fruit sorbet, peppered with vanilla and light pieces of wood.
  • Finish: Very pleasant, slightly tart and fresh, a bit spicy with a delicate bitterness. A pleasant light fruity sweetness lingers on the palate for a relatively long time alongside spicy notes.

Description

GORDON & MACHPHAIL Distillery Labels Strathisla 2006

GORDON & MACHPHAIL Distillery Labels Strathisla 2006, was distilled over at Strathisla in 2006, and left to age until 2019. Indie bottler Gordon & MacPhail bottled the single malt at 43% ABV as part of its fabulously retro Distillery Labels series. Gordon and MacPhail have matured this 2006 vintage Strathisla in refill sherry butts. Strathisla is known as a light yet spicy whisky, and this release really does show off some of the best the spirit has to offer. The 12 year old Strithisla bottled by the distillery has been discontinued so this bottling here is a great opportunity to sample this superb Speyside single malt. The style of Strathisla is light and delicate. It is a whisky that takes time to mature and develop its full complexity.

Strathisla is a Speyside distillery located in Keith, Moray. Its distilling license was granted in 1786 and this makes it Scotland’s oldest licensed distillery. The site was used as a brewery by the local monks and when operations shifted to distilling the distillery became known as Milton. That name would only be changed back to ‘Strathisla’ in 1951.

Gordon & MacPhail is an independent bottler of Scotch whiskyand distillery owner, famous for its richly diverse range of bottlings from some of the most notable distilleries in Scotland.

The business was founded in 1895 as a grocer and wine and spirit merchant in Elgin in the northeast of Scotland. In 1915, former apprentice John Urquhart, took over full control of the business. More than a century later, Gordon & MacPhail remains a family business. The range extends to several hundred expressions from around 70 different distilleries, including Glenlivet, Glenrothes and Talisker. The company has gained global attention in recent years by releasing two 70-year-old single malts, one from Mortlach in 2010, and another from Glenlivet in 2012.

In 1993, the company purchased Benromach Distillery at Forres, in Speyside, which had closed 10 years before. It reopened in 1998, with the first bottlings in 2004.
