Mortlach Neverbound Collection – Release 01 is a bold Speyside single malt Scotch whisky from Mortlach, the famed “Beast of Dufftown.” This first release in the Neverbound Collection showcases Mortlach’s signature 2.81 distillation process and a flavour profile that pushes beyond classic Speyside expectations with rich, savoury depth and powerful character.
For this expression, Mortlach worked with a French cooperage to hand-select new French oak casks that were air-dried for up to four years in the Cognac region. The whisky was first matured in refill casks before being finished in these rare French oak casks, creating a layered style that moves from sweet red fruit into deeply savoury, wood-spiced complexity. It is bottled at 50.8% ABV.
On the nose, expect red fruits, a vibrant rich backdrop, and savoury hints of soy sauce and smoked meat, supported by elegant, well-integrated wood spice. The palate opens very sweet, with demerara sugar and spice building into Mortlach’s characteristic rich, complex, meaty notes. The finish is intense, spicy, and savoury, leaving a long, powerful impression.
