Description

Port Charlotte 10 year old

Port Charlotte 10 year old is made from Bruichladdich distillery on Islay and is launch at june. The Port Charlotte whisky produced by Bruichladdich was heavily peated to a level of 40 parts per million. Port Charlotte Heavily Peated Islay Single Malt, 10 YO, contain 50% ABV and 750 ml.

Port Charlotte bottle, it’s nice to hold, nice to pour. Chunky. It’s nice to open. The cork is nice. The bottle is nice to pour. Lots of nice, pleasing details, if not massively exciting.

The color of port charlotte 10 is a rich gold. On the nose, the whisky is dry, with cold smoke and an earthy peat aroma. There are the expected medicinal notes, but these are bracketed by dry floral and oaky aromas, accompanied by a hint of ocean breeze. In time, additional notes of crème brûlée, vanilla, along with slight ginger pepper notes, and hints of nutmeg and clove also emerge.

On the palate, there is a pronounced oily viscosity, with a noticeable palate weight and a smooth creamy texture. The alcohol, at 50% ABV, is remarkably well integrated.

There is a distinctive honey sweetness, accompanied by peppery notes, dried tropical fruit flavors of melon and pineapple, vanilla, some citrus, a bit of smoked fish and a slight saline tang.

The finish of port charlotte 10 is long, sweet with notes of pepper, stone and tropical fruit, cooked cereal and a pervasive smoky and medicinal character.

This is a rich, complex whisky, with layers of flavors. The smoke and peat are pervasive, but well-integrated, and balanced by the honeyed sweetness and fruitiness. In time, the fruit notes become more distinctive, especially with the addition of a little water. This is a dram for a cold night and a warm fire.
