The Macallan Rare Cask
The Macallan Rare Cask stands as an ode to the beautiful natural color and complexity of flavor upon which The Macallan has established its reputation. Rare Cask is crafted using liquid aged in first-fill Sherry Oak casks. Bob Dalgarno, The Macallan’s Master Whisky Maker, hand-selects the finest whisky from less than 1% of the casks maturing at the distillery. The result of this scrupulous selection process is a brilliantly rich, vibrant ruby-red single malt.
The Macallan Rare Cask Single Malt Scotch whisky was introduced to the UK in mid 2015, after being launched in the US in late 2014. It’s comprised of whiskies drawn from 16 different Sherry cask styles, chosen by Macallan’s Master Whisky Maker Bob Dalgarno. A high proportion of these casks are first fill, and has resulted in a rich, spicy Speyside single malt, bursting with honey’d raisin, root ginger and decadent chocolate notes.
Macallan Rare Cask is comprised of 16 different sherry-cask styles, the majority of which are first fill. Rich and complex with notes of dark honey and dried fruit, this bridges the gap between The 1824 Series and The 1824 Collection.
Macallan Master Blender Bob Dalgarno selected the barrels that go into Rare Cask from mostly first fill sherry casks that have been maturing at the distillery. Of more than 1000 barrels, aged in “… the industry’s finest most exclusive and expensive casks,” only 1% of the whiskies made the cut and were chosen for their color and depth of flavor. The bottles are presented in a swank gatefold box.
