Some people only love white wine. Others only drink red. Wine preference is a matter of individual taste. There are plenty of white wine styles that you can choose from and try before making up your mind on whether you like red or white wine Most white wine bottles basically fall under six styles, which are
  • Oaked chardonnay
  • Unoaked chardonnay
  • Sauvignon blanc
  • Pinot Grigio
  • Riesling dry
  • Riesling sweet

Oaked Chardonnay

Chardonnay is actually the most popular white wine and there are many brands who carry it such as the Luis Felipe Edwards Chardonnay 2020. Oaked chardonnay is famous for its rich vanilla flavours and often rounder feel of the wood that aging provides.

Unoaked Chardonnay

Unoaked chardonnay refers to wines that are aged in stainless steel or sometimes in neutral oak but only for a short time. This means that the rich vanilla flavour is not transferred into the white wines. There is no buttery vanilla flavour and instead you’ll get a mouthful of delicious green apple, lemon and maybe some pineapple flavours.

Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon blanc originates in France but only increased in popularity when it reached New Zealand. It smells of fresh cut grass with a good amount of acidity that is very refreshing. However, if you are looking for a subtler wine, this type of wine may not be for you.

Pinot Grigio

The best pinot grigio is found in Italy. Popular for its refreshing flavours of line, lemon and green apple, it is often a dry white wine (not sweet). It goes very well with seafood. You can try the Berton Vineyard Foundstone Pinot Grigio for starters.

Riesling Dry

Riesling is often thought to be a type of sweet white wine but the fact is, the best riesling that comes from Germany and Alsace are bone dry. However, if you prefer sweeter wines, riesling white wine has got you covered with the….

Riesling Sweet

This good white wine is also made in Germany as well as in parts of the United States. If you love the sweet white wine taste, try the Oddsocks Sweet as Moscato White wine can be further broken down within these six categories. It is not just a matter of choosing between sauvignon blanc vs chardonnay or sauvignon blanc vs pinot grigio. For example, one may prefer sweet chardonnay over dry chardonnay As for when to drink white wine, some say that the best time to taste wine is from 11am to 1pm. This is because your mouth is drier. Saliva that builds up in your mouth throughout the day can change the taste of wine dramatically.  As for red vs white wine, it is generally a matter of preference but most people recommend you serve red white with red meat like steak and white wine for stew.  You can order wine online at Whisky.my and their wine delivery service will bring a bottle right to your doorstep. Remember to always chill your white wine to 50 to 60°F (10 to 16°C) before serving in a wine glass but most of all, remember to always share the love around and clink glasses with your friends!
